About the training and who should attend

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in Oklahoma for people ages 15 - 20
years old. Recent surveys show 46 percent text while they drive. (We believe this is a very
conservative number.) Texting while driving is becoming as dangerous as drinking and
driving when it comes to inhibiting a teen's driving ability. Cell phone use accounts for 2600
vehicle fatalities and 300,000 collisions annually

FCCLA teams are invited to these leadership trainings to improve these statistics.
Attending teams of 5 students and 1 sponsor will be given tools and motivation to develop plans
of action for implementation in their schools and community. These actions, promises and
commitments for safe driving between peers will bring awareness to this issue and, most
importantly, save lives. Participating teams will be invited to submit documentation of
their activities to the Oklahoma Challenge Awards Program for recognition of their
good work.

Registration is free of charge. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. Deadline is
1 month prior to the training. Teams will be registered on a first come, first serve basis.
